About
Director · Producer · Assistant Director (DGC)
Sina Nazarian is an Iranian-Canadian filmmaker and photographer based in Vancouver. Working across documentary, narrative, and experimental film, he explores memory, identity, and the relationship between our inner lives and the landscapes we inhabit. His work draws on personal experience, surreal imagery, and a curiosity about serendipity—the unexpected encounters and connections that shape our lives.
His directing work includes Where I’m From, an experimental art and music film exploring Jungian individuation, which premiered at the Berlin International Art Film Festival in 2022, winning Best Experimental Art Film, and went on to win the Leo Award for Best Musical Score. His producing credits include HATCH, which premiered at VIFF and won Best Short Film at the Red Sea International Film Festival; Constant Battles, a documentary following Iranian-Canadian boxer Nyousha Nakhjiri that premiered at Hot Docs in 2026; and Light Through the Blindfold, a documentary following Iranian goalball athlete Maryam Salehizadeh that premiered at the Available Light Film Festival in 2026. HATCH and Light Through the Blindfold were both nominated for Best Short Film at the DGC Awards.
Alongside his own films, Sina is a DGC assistant director with a decade on set, working on series including Untamed (Netflix), Upload (Prime Video), and Goosebumps (Disney+). He is currently in production on Studio at the Castle, a feature hybrid documentary with surrealist painter William D. Higginson, and developing Internal Landscapes, a surreal narrative short about childhood, grief, and memory.
